Would A Westie Be Right For Me (west Highland White Terrier?

I am currently a student and working part time so I am gone about 8 hours a day but then I am home the rest of th evening from 5 on. I am allowed to have a dog and yes I can afford it and please do not turn this into a lecture about leaving a dog alone all day. I have done a lot of research so I do not want websites, just personal experience and opinions. I live in an apartment but it is right next to an extensive path and there are grassy areas for the dog to potty. I do not wanta dog to sit in my apartment abd bark all day as I do have neighbors and do not want to upset them. I know that terriers can be stubborn and spunky, but I like that about the breed. I am just worried about leaving him alone for 8 hours in a crate or pent up in the kitchen when he is a little older and I know he will not chew on the cabinents. Toy Poodle Or West Highland White Terrier?

ok, so my family is looking for a small dog that are good for people with allergies. We want a dog that is nice, obedient, NOT rowdy and does not bark a lot. We have kids come to our house often and we want a dog that doesnt scare them, instead interact and play with them. Is a toy poodle better than a westie? I’ve heard westies bark alot. And my family wants a nice and silent dog. So please help.

Would A West Highland White Terrier Right For Me?

I’m 12 years old. I have a pet hedgehog, and also share the responsibility of my older sisters rat. My family has owned dogs in the past, that have past away, and I believe I’m ready to take on the responsibility of my own dog. Yes I am young and clearly can not pay emergency vet bills if need be, but my mother said if something happens in which i can’t pay myself she will be more then willing to help. I am just having troubles deciding on a breed. I am probably going to adopt from a shelter, because there are so many homeless pets, but there are still tons of pure bred dogs in shelters to pick from. Westies are one of the dog breeds that have come to interest, and I would like to know if a westie would suit my life style.
I have school 8-4, and have a medium sized back yard with a small doggie door. I want a dog that will like to relax and sit on my lap while on the computer or watching TV, but also a dog that would like a nice long walk, or a game of fetch.I would prefer a dog under 20 pounds. And I don’t mind giving baths, or brushing a coat a few times a week. My mom is an experienced groomer, so if it is a dog that is going to need a monthly trim, or anything like that, would be okay. I am probably going to wait until summer to adopt a dog/puppy, so i will have plenty of time to bond with him/her before i have to return to school. I am open to any other suggestions of dog breeds as well, and i appreciate every ones help.

Question About My West Highland White Terrier?

I have a westie, and his name is Kota. He is three years old, and 25 pounds. I was wondering if this weight was normal? There is also another problem with him. He pees around the house. He is perfectly potty-trained, and we always let him out before we leave for long periods of time, like when my mom goes to work and my sister and I go to school. Lastly, if he drinks too much water too fast, he’ll cough and almost sound like he’s choking. Is he just getting too excited and swallowing it down the wrong pipe?
Other than these issues, Kota is a very good dog. He loves his family, especially me, and is extremely playful He loves to play in the snow in the winter and the fresh cut grass in the summer, and has no allergies. I’m just a bit worried about him, is all. If you could answer my three questions, I would feel MUCH better.

Seven Year Old West Highland White Terrier?

My 7 year old westie has been showing her age a little more than usual. It takes her forever to get moving in the morning, like her joints need time before she can do anything. She is acting hard of hearing as well.
She eats great food, has a huge yard to run in (and oh does she!), other dogs to play with and a big fluffy pillow at night to sleep on. I dont know what I did wrong to have her be acting so old in just the past year.
Should I start her on a sort of supplement? More excersise?
Is there a way to make her more “puppy-like and playful”?

I need some info my dog is sick. she is eight years old. she wont walk up the stairs anymore she wont get on the couch, when you look in her little cute face her eyes are watery. her stomach is sensitive if you try to pic her up by her stomach she yelps. she wont run after her toy. when you give her her toy sometimes she keeps her toy in her mouth
