Shihtzu Or Westie? I Know All Dogs Are Different?

Which breed is generally easier to train & friendlier? A west highland white terrier or a shihtzu? I know all dogs are different but which breed is known to be easier to train & friendlier? Thanks!

Would A Westie Be Right For Me (west Highland White Terrier?

I am currently a student and working part time so I am gone about 8 hours a day but then I am home the rest of th evening from 5 on. I am allowed to have a dog and yes I can afford it and please do not turn this into a lecture about leaving a dog alone all day. I have done a lot of research so I do not want websites, just personal experience and opinions. I live in an apartment but it is right next to an extensive path and there are grassy areas for the dog to potty. I do not wanta dog to sit in my apartment abd bark all day as I do have neighbors and do not want to upset them. I know that terriers can be stubborn and spunky, but I like that about the breed. I am just worried about leaving him alone for 8 hours in a crate or pent up in the kitchen when he is a little older and I know he will not chew on the cabinents. Thanks for your answers and please be nice.

Half Way Through Housetraining With My 5 Month Westie Puppy?

I have been trying to take my puppy out before bedtime to ensure his bowel is empty so he could last for the night before I take him out 6am in the morning but he didn’t like to pee at night. I have been cleaning his mistake every morning for a week already. What can I do to resolve this? I would really like to paper train him at the same time so he could release himself at the right spot inside if he couldn’t hold it, is it possible and how?
here’s the my puppy schedule:
* 6am (tried out with pup but he already peed on the floor inside the apartment)
* 7am feed
* 8am out with pup
* 12:30pm out with pup
* 4:30pm out with pup
* 7pm feed

What Can I Do To Stop My Westie From Going On The Floor At Night?

He is house trained and has been for over a year. My 11yr old insists on having him in the bed with her but doesn’t respond when he wakes her to take him out. Instead of waking me he either goes on her floor or in my little one’s room. Normally if I’m awakened by the jingle of his tags its too late. I’ve found that when I simply tell him “no pee-ing on the floor” in a stern tone he won’t do it. He reverts right back to it if I don’t “speak” to him about it nightly.
I don’t know if I’m fortunate or unfortunate that he is really smart. Is there anything I can do besides crate him at night?

Having Problems With 7 Month Old Westie Pup Weeing In The House?

Hi my wetie pup has just done a wee on my daughters bed, I’m really worried that we will never get her house trained!!!
We had her trained to use puppy pads by 10 weeks old.
She stop using these herself when she was 4 months, now however she has started to go for a wee around the house, weeing on my daughers bed is a first though. she know to go to the door if she wants out, and does this most of the time, I feel that we are going backwards. Any suggestion??? thanks.

Our “westie” Bites His Right Paw When Excited.?

more precisely when a visitor comes to the house he will chew at his right dew claw and run around the house on three legs chewing it. We have had him since August 2007, a 2 yrs 7 month rescue dog. In all other ways he has an excellent temperament. He is house trained and goes to bed in a crate quite happily and we thought, settled and secure with my wife and I. We wonder if he feels insecure. He is very well cared for and walked three times a day and very much part of the family. We are considering consulting a dog behaviour expert for advice.

Westie A Good Big Sister?

We are considering getting another dog in the home and was wondering if by nature there were any breeds that commonly got along well with Westies? She is going to be two in April and has been very well socialized and fairly well behaving and trained. My concerns are that either another animal will disrupt this pattern or the other pet will try and be too dominant over her. Any thoughts?

Does My Westie Need A Companion?

Okay, heres the thing. We got my young little West Highland Terrier about 7 months ago. We have trained him well and he is very happy. We had him enrolled in a Puppy Training School and he did very well and met all the other small puppies and was always so excited to see them every week and was always so happy. Unfortunately, he is our only dog and now he seems lonely and seems like he is going into a “depression”. He isn’t as happy and bites us sometimes and he will walk around with his head down and is all lethargic. Should we get another puppy companion for him? I need proof for my dad that we should. Please let me know and give links to the puppy.
Thank you so much
