Can My Puppy Be Trained???
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have a 9 week old Westie and she has been trying our patience….she is biting everything in sight (including us!), she hasn’t gotten the potty training down, and now she all of a sudden has discovered her voice and barks at everything. She stays in a puppy proofed room that has her bed, food, and an area for potty, but as soon as we get home, we let her out to the living room, where we supervise her. I think this is what’s confusing her because when she’s in the room she pottys just fine, it’s just when we let her in the living room that she doesn’t know where to go. We haven’t taught her to go outside because she’s still to young and we’re not there during the day. Also, we’re not sure if she can go outside yet and walk around since she’s not fully vaccintated. We love her but we are new to this and need help!!

My Westie Has Lived With Us For 5 Months And Is Still Not Potty Trained. Help Please!!!!?

We have a West Highland White Terrier. She is the cutest dog we’ve ever had and one of the best. She behaves well around strangers and likes children (too hyper for babies though). She gets plenty of attention and someone is home all day everyday with her. Yet she still goes to the bathroom in the house. She may do good for about 3 or 4 days but then she has an accident again. It’s horrible. I mean we shampoo our carpets all the time because we try to get the smell out so she knows that this is where you don’t go to the bathroom. What can I do to potty train my dog. She has accidents also when people come over. That is so embarrassing. We think that may be from overstimulation, because she is so little and people all love her and want to go to her at one time. Anyways. I desperately need your help to fix this problem with my dog. The rest of my family has just about given up.
My Westie Attacks Viciously And Gets Very Possesive, Can This Be Trained Out Of Him?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I’ve had my westie for just over a year now and some extremely bad and aggresive behaviour is just starting to take place. When he was a puppy he had a few minor issues that could be trained out of him such as excessive barking, and running out of the house. He used to bite a lot but nothing major as he was only little and most of the time he was just playing.
A couple of months ago he was trying to get food out from the bin and my sister attempted to stop him by pushing him down and telling him “bad” (which he usually responds to), a few moments later he suddenly turned on her and bit her foot viciously, holding on to it. A lot of blood was drawn, but fortunately she didn’t need stitches. This was a major shock to the rest of the family as it was completely unexpected. Therefore we decided we would get him castrated to try and limit his aggressive and tempremental behaviour.
Its been 5 weeks sinse the operation and he seemed to slowly be getting better, so yesterday when he aggresively bit my mum on both arms after she attempted to stop him from shredding a tissue, we were all horrified. The wound was very servere and she has a swollen arm, and took an emergancy trip to A&E, but fortunately didn’t need stitches.
We all love our dog to bits and really don’t want to have him put down, but at the moment there seems to be no other options. The worst part is that he has forgotten what he has done and is back to his normal self. But obviously this cant be ignored or it may happen again. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
