Before I put her in her crate for the night, or if I will be out for a few hours, I always take her outside to do her business, & for the most part she is OK in the crate & will not have any accidents.
However, sometimes she does, & I know this is normal since she is a puppy & all – but my question is this – Sometimes I see her eating her Accidents! How do I make her stop!
I do leave water in her crate, a small amount but just enough to either last through the night or while I am away. I do not leave any food in her cage, I do feed her every morning & put out a little more than 1/2 cup of food with her water. I do spoil her with treats throughout the day, like when I take her out to reward her for going outside & such, but every once in a while I see when she has had an accident in her cage, & I have come home to catch her eating it!
Is this bad for her? How do I stop this
I have a four month old West Highland White Terrier. I feed him Wellness Mix 5 Puppy Formula. The vet said that he should be eating about 1 cup per day at this point in his growth process.
I have been trying to feed him that amount. But he is flat out refusing to eat it. He only eats about 1/2 cup per because he is “hungry” but after that he walks away from it. He has nothing medically wrong with him, he passed his physical, blood tests, and has had all shots.
If I feed him 1 can of wet food it is gone. He loves it.
I tried mixing it and (wet/dry) and he just eats around the dry.
My only clarifications are….
1) He is teething and its hard for him to chew, although he will chew his rawhide “denta bone”.
2) There is something wrong with the food. Bad taste. Manufacturing defect. Something like that.
3) He is “bored” with the food. I know that is humanizing him too much, but I just want him to eat.
I know that it is not good to feed ONLY wet food because its not good for their teeth. BUT if I decided that is the best route for him to be able to eat food, what can I do to protect his oral health.
I was thinking of trying Halo, Nutro puppy formulas too.
Help and feedback needed.
He also plays/runs for 3-4 hours per day. So he should be really hungry.
He also favors water. He would drink 300 gallons per day If he could. Again, no concern to either vet he’s been to.
please tell me some things about the west highland white terrier. don’t copy-paste information on the breed. Just tell me some things you know, if they are friendly, how they live in a family. something you’ve heard about the breed from a friend maybe… thanks you very much!!
I am currently a student and working part time so I am gone about 8 hours a day but then I am home the rest of th evening from 5 on. I am allowed to have a dog and yes I can afford it and please do not turn this into a lecture about leaving a dog alone all day. I have done a lot of research so I do not want websites, just personal experience and opinions. I live in an apartment but it is right next to an extensive path and there are grassy areas for the dog to potty. I do not wanta dog to sit in my apartment abd bark all day as I do have neighbors and do not want to upset them. I know that terriers can be stubborn and spunky, but I like that about the breed. I am just worried about leaving him alone for 8 hours in a crate or pent up in the kitchen when he is a little older and I know he will not chew on the cabinents. Thanks for your answers and please be nice.
Im gettin a Westy tomorrow and i want to think of a name for it!
You have any suggestions…its a girl by the way.
I want puppy that is easy to train, cute, indulgent, follow my instructions and behave itself..My choices are westie and toy poodle.
Pls pick the BEST one!!
ok, so my family is looking for a small dog that are good for people with allergies. We want a dog that is nice, obedient, NOT rowdy and does not bark a lot. We have kids come to our house often and we want a dog that doesnt scare them, instead interact and play with them. Is a toy poodle better than a westie? I’ve heard westies bark alot. And my family wants a nice and silent dog. So please help.
I’m 12 years old. I have a pet hedgehog, and also share the responsibility of my older sisters rat. My family has owned dogs in the past, that have past away, and I believe I’m ready to take on the responsibility of my own dog. Yes I am young and clearly can not pay emergency vet bills if need be, but my mother said if something happens in which i can’t pay myself she will be more then willing to help. I am just having troubles deciding on a breed. I am probably going to adopt from a shelter, because there are so many homeless pets, but there are still tons of pure bred dogs in shelters to pick from. Westies are one of the dog breeds that have come to interest, and I would like to know if a westie would suit my life style.
I have school 8-4, and have a medium sized back yard with a small doggie door. I want a dog that will like to relax and sit on my lap while on the computer or watching TV, but also a dog that would like a nice long walk, or a game of fetch.I would prefer a dog under 20 pounds. And I don’t mind giving baths, or brushing a coat a few times a week. My mom is an experienced groomer, so if it is a dog that is going to need a monthly trim, or anything like that, would be okay. I am probably going to wait until summer to adopt a dog/puppy, so i will have plenty of time to bond with him/her before i have to return to school. I am open to any other suggestions of dog breeds as well, and i appreciate every ones help.
I have a westie, and his name is Kota. He is three years old, and 25 pounds. I was wondering if this weight was normal? There is also another problem with him. He pees around the house. He is perfectly potty-trained, and we always let him out before we leave for long periods of time, like when my mom goes to work and my sister and I go to school. Lastly, if he drinks too much water too fast, he’ll cough and almost sound like he’s choking. Is he just getting too excited and swallowing it down the wrong pipe?
Other than these issues, Kota is a very good dog. He loves his family, especially me, and is extremely playful He loves to play in the snow in the winter and the fresh cut grass in the summer, and has no allergies. I’m just a bit worried about him, is all. If you could answer my three questions, I would feel MUCH better.
coz i heard that this dog is big.. xD so thx!
