This is a very personal choice. Read some breed books. Go to some shows and talk to the breeders, meet the dogs. I feel that the individual dog is more important than the breed. Don’t be in a hurry, and don’t feel pressured to purchase one just because you went to look at it. You will know when the right one comes along. I personally have a pom. She doesn’t bark too much. (just at me when she want my attention like when she has to go outside, and to tell me someones at the door. She stops when told to. She is extremely smart and learns things instantly (not always a good thing) She loves all other dogs and people but I socialized her a lot when she was a puppy because this breed can be standoffish with strangers. She will lay with me and watch TV or run and play. What ever I want. (o.k. sometimes when she wants)
I know some shih tzu that are also quite wonderful. As I stated before the individual temperament and training is more important that the breed. (the breed is just the starting point) Check out the parents. Take care and choose the one that will fit with you. You will have to live with it for the next 15 or more years. Good luck

All these breeds tend to be very barky and difficult to train if you don’t know what you are doing. I would take one of those puppy breed quizzes on line and see which one is best for you. My best advice is which ever breed you get, you walk it a fair bit (even little dogs need at least 30min to an hour walk a day) and enroll it in an obedience class. You must be firm and consistent with any puppy to have it trained well. Another good tid bit is do not pick it up a lot around other dogs and people because then it gets a feeling of superiority and will become aggressive and dominant (a lot of little dogs are like this because their owners humanize them and do not discipline them like they would a bigger dog). My sister has a pom and she didn’t pick her up for the first year, and I swear that dog is fantastic. She doesn’t bark or bite. And get the food that has the most protein and the least filler. Choose the one with the most real meat in it, with the least grain. And each dog is different regardless of breed, so just because in general a certain breed isn’t hyper or easily trainable does not mean yours will be.
Do not mix food, or switch back and forth. It upsets their stomachs and can get loose stool.

Aw man, one that won’t bark too much out of those? I think they are all pretty yappy, so I can’t advise against it. They would all be good with other dogs if they were taught right, and they are all pretty easily trained. If I were you I would get the Pom, because I think they are the cutest.
All of those foods are good brands so no matter which way you go it’s alright. You should switch it up each time you buy the food though to keep your dog interested and prevent it from getting picky. So I would say alternate between the three unless your dog doesn’t like one.

Canidae is one of the best dog foods currently on the market because it is very low in fillers. As for what breed, it sounds like you are looking for a smaller dog. Do some research into the health problems on pure breed dogs–some of them have severe issues. I would still recommend to anyone getting a golden retriever because they tend to be the most mellow while still being the most loving. My family had a golden for 13 years, and while we think he didn’t get enough socialization as a pup so he would get along well with other dogs, they usually get along well with anything.

I would suggest a shih-tzu. I have a pug-zu which is half pug and half shih-tzu, And i was able to train it more then ten tricks not counting hand symbols. Its is obediant to so i suggest a shih-tzu. And as for the food i dont which one because i never heard of them before lol but buy the type of food that you think your dog will like and which is more better for your budget.

i’m not sure about which breed of dog you should get, just do some research and it should be able to tell you everything you’re asking. as for food, i HIGHLY recomend Solid Gold. I give it to my dog (American Eskimo) and his coat is shinier than ever and its real healthy for him. Generally no health problems.

Im sorry if i’m no big help because my family passes along with generations and generations of cats, but i’ve heard that pomeranians are very hyper. I’m sorry i’ve tried to be a little help. I’ve seen that you’ve taken a source of little dogs though (lol). But it matters on the dog and how it is, sometimes not on the bread.

I just bought a cute lil Papillon puppy a week ago. They are VERY known for their intelligence, she has learned a lot in the past week and very close to being house broken. They are friendly dogs, which is true because my puppy just loves everyone. Not all papillons are cute puppys, usually their markings make them cute. Go to http://www.myspace.com/kimtrupia and look at my pics of her. But as far as obedience these dogs are real smart and learn fast. They only get up to about 10 lbs

  9. e.lonzo says:

    Well, I would personally get a pomeranian because there cute :) And vicious and there pretty hyper/energetic dogs. No puppy will be easy to train, it takes patience with the owner;
And for the food question you should get the Merrick.

get one from the pound there are tons of great dogs waiting for a loving home. And if its a pure bred you want there are always a pure bred at the pound. You are saving a dog from being put to sleep. Dont breed and buy while shelter pets die!

    Try this: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm
It’s a quiz/test that will find a suitable breed for you.
Whatever breed you decide to get, please get him/her from a shelter and save a life.
    Hope this helps! =]

  14. nikirose says:

you could go to a local shelter, or a rat terrier is good.
or if you want something you like try petfinder.com
and for food i would use a wet dry diet any food is good
    good luck

  15. Verona says:

The Westie is cute. If you can purchase low cost meat from the grocery store, it would be best for your pet. The chemicals that are placed into pet food are damaging.

  16. bella says:

well actually i think you should get a chow chow. They are the cutest and most friendly/active dog ever!
