Which Breed Has Less Doggy Odour, Corgi Or Westie?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
my family is planning to have a corgi or westie, we love both breed and are struggling to choose between them.
My mum is very sensitive to smell , so i wonder which breed has less doggy odour?
and a few more questions:
does westie bark a lot?
does corgi shed a lot?
which breed is more suitable for city life?
which breed is easier to train?
thanks so much

I have a Westie and she is the BEST family dog. All of the answers bad about westies is becuase you have to groom them about once ever one and 1/2 months. Westies are VERY easy to train, they get the concept quickly. Westies only bark occasionaly. NEVER at night. Sometimes during the day but only for a few minutes. The corgi is a good dog too but Westies dont shed AT ALL and have NO ODOR if you give them a bath when needed. (Once ever 1 to 2 weeks) I know a Corgi and they shed a LOT and can have a little foul odor due to their longer coat. But both are good dogs. I would prefer the Westie because they are smaller and would be easier in city life. To look for a westie, go to…

These ones are adorable and this is were we got ours at.
Hope i helped and gave you some good advice!
Hiya, I know you are only interested in the two dogs you mentioned above, but Chihuahuas almost have a non-existant dog odour and don’t shed a lot either. Also, they are ideal for city life (if socialised and trained properly)
I just thought I’d mention it as another option.
Hope you find the right dog. The ones you mentioned above are both very lovely dogs.
1. It depends on how you train it.
2. I don’t know this breed very well, but I do have a generalization: Since it is short haired, it most likely has a lot of hair to be shed, but if you brush it regularly, it will help.
3. Either, but the westie needs exercise. It will also dig to get out, and chase. Keep that in mind. They are terriers.
4. I am not sure; I don’t know these breeds.
There are two kinds of corgis; cardigan and welsh.

Westie:http://dogbreedinfocenter.com/westhighla…
A westie will shed less & doesn’t have as thick of a coat as a corgi so they do tend to smell better.
As far as the city living thing I think that both dogs need adequate exercise but westies may be a bit more high energy. If you take your dog to obedience classes you shouldn’t have a problem with training either of them.
Both are reasonably suitable to city life (as long as you give them proper exercise!) and about the same easiness to train.
A dog will have virtually NO odor if you feed them quality food, but it’s a hard thing to learn about good foods (since pet food companies are almost always wrong). Check out this link:http://hubpages.com/_ans/hub/DeadlyDogFo…
Westies bark a bit more than Corgis, and they both shed about the same. Why do you love these breeds, other than their look? It sounds like you need to do some actual research on both.
Talk to some breeders and get the information from them as to what would be the best animal for your family. As to smell, I have always used a bit of baking soda when grooming my dogs. I have had Shepherds, Retrievers, Poms, Cairns and Pit Bulls. It absorbs the doggy odor quite well and then is brushed out leaving no powdery trail!
I have a female westie and she doesn’t smell bad at all!
My westie does bark quite a bit though, but that’s because my westie is very protective of the family. ^^
Westies are easy to train, if ours does something wrong, we just give a short sharp “NO” and she stops what she was doing at once.
I advise you to get a westie! They a great family pets!
i would say a corgi has less doggie smell as my uncle has a westie and she feels greasy to the touch and she can be very smelly
westies do bark alot my uncle had the enviromental health round to warn him about the noise his dog was making
i would say the corgi is easier to train
I have a corgi mix and he has no doggy odor. He’s self-cleaning; if he gets muddy, the mud dries and falls off. He almost doesn’t need to be bathed.
However, he does shed quite a bit. And he has a large bark.
