You should contact your states or countrys Westie Club.
They well be able to give you the advise you need.
It is a big responsibility to breed. It is important to try and mantian the breed standard and should never be done to make money.

We have two-year-old an AKS registered male Westie that became of age this spring that is from a wonderful line of dogs. He is soft-coated with excellent lines.

why do you want to cross breed them to make a mutt? is your dogs health check, does it have any show qualities, is it old enough to be breed?? also with the male, does it have show qualities, health guaranty, and do the parents have good qualities? If you are just a backyard breeder you should leave it to the professionals. we dont need any more animals in this world.. haven’t you been to your local animal shelter. also for every one person 15 dogs are born and 45 cats are born, dont you see how many animals that leaves to die in shelters?get her fixed asap~ dont breed or buy while shelter pets die

You should only be breeding a dog that has been health tested, and preferably has titles (JMO because I can’t see any point in breeding a dog without titles). If you are looking to responsibly breed a litter of Westies that will do justice to the breed, then check with your Westie club; they may be able to help.
Oh come on – you know I had to say it…… : )

If you’re not a breeder, and do not show your dog, and do not get OFA or CERF checks done, you are contributing to pet overpopulation… Don’t do it!

  8. Corey B says:

To the folks who are talking about “mutts” in their answers – you do realize that a “westie” *is* a “west highland white terrier”, right? And for once the questioner isn’t asking about making a “designer breed”?
The answer still stands, though, that if you have to come to someplace like Yahoo to ask this, it means that you shouldn’t be breeding, because you don’t have the knowledge you need to do it responsibly.
Millions of dogs are killed every year – many of them purebred – because of this sort of ignorance from backyard breeders and hobby breeders. Don’t be part of the problem. Get your dog spayed.

  9. Nandina (Bunny Slipper Goddess) says:

Why do you want more mutts out there? Stop by the shelter and look for mutts – there are plenty there that get put to sleep each day!

    Dog shows.
Test your Westie for genetic health problems and allow her to gain an AKC Champion title in the show ring. Breeders will respect you more and you would have a much better chance to get a high quality, healthy stud than just any old Westie from the paper. If you’re going to breed, at least do it responsibly.

  11. Elena says:

    You can’t.
You either buy one from a reputable breeder and then get them both thoroughly checked to make sure they are healthy (OFA/CERF as well) or you spay your dog.http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/breeding.h…
