What Do You Mean By Raw Diet?

When I googled it it showed dogs eating whole goats heads and raw cow hooves etc, in a raw sense does cooked chicken breast count? Turkey, beef etc. Secondly are vegetables good for dogs because my westie prefers veg to meat. And lasty I was watching a dog training Program yesterday and it said dogs cant have pork because they can’t digest it and it reduces there life span is this correct?

Pork is hard on the canine digestive system. It is one of the main causes of pancreatitis. Also dogs fed raw diets are at higher risk of parasite infection (and so is your family and your home or yard) so you have to be careful with worming and clean up after feeding. Oh and never feed raw salmon to a dog cause it can kill them.

Some people feel that raw diets are more like what a dog would eat if it were wild.
Several things… You must have room in your freezer and be very careful handling the food.
I have my dog on the BARF (bones and raw food) diet. I get it pre-repared so you don’t have to worry about getting the proper balance of vitamins, minerals, etc. It comes frozen in patties that look like hamburger. There is no blood or body parts. The diet has ground bone, and organs added to the meat to get the full balance of nutrients, and also has vegetables to add other necessary nutrients. A pure meat diet is not complete enough.
I switched him over because he has cancer, and this diet is supposed to be better for him, making it easier for him to fight it and handle treatment. It’s also supposedly better in terms of antioxidents, and might help prevent canine cancer.
I personally use Bravo Balance, which seems to be working great for my dog, who BTW is allergic to just about every commercial dog food on the market. His coat looks great, his eyes are bright, and he has tons of energy even though he’s sick. I will use this diet for all of my dogs in the future.

Pork should be cooked, but dogs can eat it. It is maybe a little fatty. Raw means raw. Many people feed their dogs raw including bones. I have concerns about bacterial contamination in meats, so I feed cooked. Our dogs are Dachshunds and they get 1/2 Cup sirloin and 1 C raw blended vegies at a meal (feed 2). Many dogs like vegies, it is harder for them to get the vitamins and minerals from them if they are not put in the blender. They are a nice treat for an overweight dog too.

No, raw is RAW as in not cooked at all. BARF diets feed vegetables, I don’t think dogs need vegetables. Prey model doesn’t feed vegetables. Prey model is feeding whole animal carcasses as well as organs and raw meaty bones. People feed raw pork all the time without any consequences. I’ve seen prey model online suppliers that have pig noses, pig brains and other pig things.
I don’t think veggies are good for dogs, dogs are carnivores.
I don’t think pork is bad.
and I think raw is much better than kibble or cooked diets.
Dead animals don’t bleed, blood will not go everywhere. A lot of people feed on kitchen floors or outside to prevent a mess. But, they think, what’s more important a clean house or a healthy animal?
Vets FREQUENTLY say it’s bad to feed raw, but Vets are not taught dog nutrition in Vet school. They are taught nutrition in a short seminar given by dog food manufacturers. Dogs do not get parasitic or bacterial infections or diseases from feeding raw. Here’s an article about the vets are qualified to give nutritional advice MYTH. http://rawfed.com/myths/vets.html
Dogs are NOT people. Dogs don’t absorb food the same way and they are at a VERY minimal risk of illness from raw food. Read this article about the bacteria in raw feeding MYTH. http://rawfed.com/myths/bacteria.html
