West Highland White Terrier: A “macho” Dog?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I own a West Highland White Terrier. While I was reading one of the magazines I own, I came across an excerpt that read a little something like this:
“There was a survey taken several years ago by The American Kennel Club’s “Gazette” of men and the “Macho” breeds they tend to own. The top ten dogs included all of the “expected” breeds with one notable exception, THE WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER.”
Has anyone seen this survey? Is there somewhere I can find this online? Though I think Westies are rough housers and can be extremely tenacious, spunky and downright ferocious, I don’t believe the survey. I have to see this for myself. I just don’t think that most people hold that idea…

Not surprised at all.
Westies are tough solid lil guys & fearless & have no problem taking on dogs way larger than themselves. My westie had no problem at all bossing around my dane from the beginning when she at 6mo was already several times his size. They have great happy personality with nice looks but not feminine looking like a bichon, maltese.
hahaha I’ve never seen that. But, I have an 11 year old Westie named Hermes. He is not a very macho dog. He’s more scared of the nail clippers than my Chihuahua! lol
Our female Westie didn’t hesitate to tree a bear and keep it there for an hour until we hauled her in the house.
