If you are meaning a puppy it takes different amounts of time depending on pup. Most start getting their adult coats about 8,9,10 months. Until at 18 mo before their coat is fully adult. The breed standard calls for hand stripping for showing & must be at least 2″ on the back but the vast majority of owners have their westies clipped instead. It is far easier to maintain for real life & less stress for the dog. You can write me if you have any questions about grooming your westie. I specialized in terriers esp. westies since I had one. They are my fave breed for grooming!

Good grief…you can’t even use the correct breed NAME???
    WEST HIGHLAND*WHITE* TERRIER.
    WHWT are a HAND-STRIPPED breed!
First stripping should be around 8,9,10 wks.
First REAL coat takes over six months & obviously first ADULT coat as a yearling.
ALL pups are housebroken EXACTLY the same way…by being CONFINED when not under DIRECT supervision!

Google crate training. It’s amazing, especially for small breeds.
