Problem With The Female Westie Spraying The Door?

Recently my 8 year old Westie in the evening when we’re asleep has begun spraying the front door with her scent. She has been neutered and is fully trained so we and don’t know why she has begun doing this. Please Help us with any advice on how to stop her from doing this

I would take her to your vet for a work up urine and blood. Many times inappropriate urination in an older pet can be caused from medical reasons. Once that is ruled out your vet can determine if it is because now as she is older her bladder has become more lax which causes her not to be able to hold her pee for long periods or she leaks urine in her sleep. There is medication that can help with that. If both of those are ruled out then it is behavioral . I would check for any changes that may have upset her like changes in her environment or your schedule. Your vet maybe able to help you narrow the list down. Crate her at night if that is the only time she is doing it until you can change her behavior.

If you’re asleep – how do you know she’s doing this?? Any new dogs in the neighborhood? Any changes in your household?
A change in urination at this age — means you’re Vet bound! She could have crystals in her urine. A dog in my building had that — it caused very painful peeing and so he really got into a contorted position in order to pee with the least amount of pain. Good Luck!

I agree with Linda_Doxiegal/Odrozaba. Take you dog in for a vet check, older, house trained dogs usually don’t start spraying unless there’s a health problem.
