My Westie Puppy Is Going To The Toilet In Her Crate.?

we have recently moved a month ago, in our previous house she was house trained, and can understand sit, stay.
Because of the new enviroment we decided to crate train her, which was helping her settle in.
over the last week she has been going to the toilet in her crate, she also used to bark if she wanted to go out but no longer does this? why is this? and how do i ensure she doesn’t do it, as i have always been told and read that a dog will not go to the toilet in their bed area. help!!

Hey there. I’m not sure how old the puppy is or where she came from. When dogs eliminate in their crates it’s because their natural instincts to never eliminate where they sleep have been overridden by the need to eliminate. To solve this problem, make sure that you keep strict track of the food your dog eats and watch her water intake. Be sure to take her to the same potty spot each time, and reward her with amazing, high value treats when she goes. Reward her right away – not when you return to the house.

If there is any bedding in the crate, remove it. Clean the crate thoroughly using an enzymatic cleaner such as Urine Gone or Nature’s Miracle. Feed your dog in her crate and always reward her for going in there. Good luck!

would you sh** yourself if some one locked you in a cage dogs are not meant to be in a crate i realy think it is a lazy way to train a puppy sorry but i hate to see dogs and pups shut in cages

Feed her in her crate as they won’t go toilet where they eat.
Lift her cage higher up, like on a table. It’s not natural to go toilet up high.
I use these methods & have great success.

Puppies can get a little confused at times about where it is okay or not okay to do their business.
Your puppy still has a small bladder and not very good muscle control.
At least 2 hours before you put her in her crate for the night, pick up her food and water. Then, just before bedtime, take her outside, wait for her to “go”, then praise her quietly and put her to bed.
First thing in the AM, when SHE wakes up, take her out, wait for it, then praise!
If you do this consistantly, waiting with her then praise for going where you want her to, she will learn quickly, but, you have to give her a chance to succeed, that is why you want to pick up food and water, so she can be “empty” and comfy.

your puppie either wants more attention, or you are not taking it outside enough ,most of all how cruel to leave it in a crate my dogs never have been in crates and they always let us know when they had to go outside to go pottie

How long is your dog i there at a time? Maybe the dog simply can’t hold it that long. My year old rat terrier can hold it just about 8 hours but no longer than that. Also you should make sure your dog doesn’t eat or drink after 8 at night or two hours before you put her away for the night. Also try to have her eat first thing in the morning and make sure she gets outside to go potty before she is in the kennel for the day. I let my dog out every 4 hours at least except at night when she is in the kennel on average 6 hours at a time.
