My Puppy Is Almost Seven Months Old Can I Still Teach Him To Hunt Rabbit?

Can i still teach my puppy to hunt rabbit even tho he is that old? How can i train him?
Also should i feed the rabbits in the area to try and increase the population?
he is a westie/boston that loves to chase the cats and we have some nice fields in the area so i figured that rabbit hunting will help him. Any suggestions will greatly help

I don’t think Westie/Boston is of the hunting class.

You can teach any type of dog how to hunt. The earlier the better.
With a non typical breed like yours it all depends on how the dogs reaction its. I have been rabbit hunting for 23 years. We used to breed beagles. The best rabbit dog i have ever owned was not a beagle. It was a yorkshire terrier. He was by far the best dog i have ever had for hunting. They were originally breed in england to throw under the houses to kill rats. He had alot of natural instincts. He would run into the holes and brush piles and pull them out himself. He cut down on my ammo costs. I even won three rabbit hunting contests with him. It all depends on each individual dogs instincts and reactions. The other key is is he gun shy. thats very important also.

yea you could try to teach him and how to teach him is to try a stuffed rabbit and ack like it is real get noise makers for it and try that way and yes you could try to feed the rabbits and increase the population yo so try that ok if you want happy new year and a merry chrismas to all.

You could try to teach any dog how to hunt. The real question is if the dog will take to hunting or be any good at it. If the dog is willing and able to go hunting for you then go ahead.

Go to your local hunting supply store or get a Cabellas magazine and order rabbit scent. It come with a leather piece that you put the scent on and drag it around the yard and the dog picks up on it.

Your puppy should run with older dogs already huting and they will catch on. Beagles learn fast.

Im not familiar some beagle names but I ha ve had several beagles I have hunted with some of the best were grade or unregistered dogs . I think your dog is the right age to get started, just spend a lot of time in the field with your beagle and probably try to find someone to hunt with that has a real slow beagle this is the best training a puppy can have.

Definately; dogs are smart; instinct will allow him to learn easily
