My Dog Isnt Eating Much….reasons?

I have had my westie pup for about a week now, and he has not been eating much. Yesterday he ate treats when I was training him, but that was about it. He just doesnt seem hungry. It has alos gone from about 75 to 90 outside the past week, could that have something to do with it?

yes heat will make animals not want to eat.
also this is a new pet to you? It could also just be nerves.
Maybe call your vet and ask them.

Well my dog just went through that and it is because I found out my neighbor was giving excessive treats to her and she then only wanted treats!! Since you have your puppy for a short time you should first get him/her on a regular feeding schedule before you start handing out treats. Most dogs should eat the appropriate amount (on the label of the food) and it should be distibuted twice daily at the same time. Dogs love routine and that is also how they learn. My advice is cut the treats out for a little while because your dog needs to get a routine going first or they will just be confused. Also, I don’t give treats unless she has eaten her bowl completely. Good luck!

He might be sick. I know dogs do eat grass though when they are upset to their stomachs. IF he doesn’t start eating in a few days I would take him to the vet. Try to play with him or take him for a walk, if that doesnt’ help go to the vet…

Yes the heat can have something to do with it. If an animal is hot, they won’t eat. My dog does the same thing. Try leaving him some dry dog food or whatever you feed him out at night and he might eat then when it’s cooler. He might not be feeling good either.

the temperature could have alot to do with it, but with it being a puppy it could be more than just the heat. hopefully you’ve had the pup to the vet and that the pup is current on shots. there are so many things that could ail a pup, call your vet for their advice.

I couldnt tell you why your pup isnt eating, but if I were you I would take him to the vet. Or atleast call a vet and see if you should bring him in. Its better to be safe then sorry.. ya know? I hope everything works out and I hope your pup is fine! Good luck! : )

I have a Shih Tzu puppy and she wasn’t eating either. She would take treats for me, but not herdog food. I noticed she lost a few of her puppy teeth while teething and it occured to me that maybe her dog food was too hard to eat, despite the fact that it was designed for puppies. So I added water to her dry food to soften it up and she eats it with no problems now. She eats twice a day with snacks in between. I dont suggest canned wet food because that makes them sick more times than not.
    Hope this helps.

take your dog to the vet . puppies will eat till they die. they dont know when to stop. if your dog isnt eating it probably has something wrong with it. its either in pain or it ate something thats obstructing its bowels.
remmeber feed the puppie4 times a day and never keep his bowl filled take give it a time limit to eat and take its food away. once the puppie is over six months old ( some people wait a year) feed him twice a day you can keep doing thisfor its lifetime or start feeding it once a day. after a year the dog should know enough that you can actually just keep his bowl filled. my dog eats once a day and its perfectly happy. hes 8 now and healthy.

it could be many things, if not anything wrong with its stomach your dog my have something wrong with its mouth causing it pain to eat. did your dog eat much and then started eating less because if it is eating tiny bits all the way through out the time you have had it it may just have a small stomach but if it doesn’t get better you should take it to the vets

The heat could be a factor, puppies will gone on and off their food. You might be giving him too many treats. Try to cut back on those and see if that helps. Good luck;^)
