My Dog Forgot His House Training.?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
My dog that is a carin terrier/westie mix and he was house trained when he was about a 8 1/2 months old. He’s now 4 and has started peeing everywhere! I find the stains and clean it up and scold him when I catch him in the act but he still continues it. I don’t know how to stop him from peeing everywhere and its been going on for a while now and my house is starting to smell bad in some places. Is there a solution to re-train him and to get the smell out?

Dog’s just dont all of a sudden do that after they have been trained for 3+ years. Perhaps he has bladder problems. Maybe you should take him to the vet.
Oh no! I hope he is alright … Take him to the vet he might have bladder infection …
Rent a carpet shampoo (that’s usually 20 – 25 bucks a day) and use the pet stain remover formula …
What I do is I put 1/2 water and 1/2 white vinegar and use sponge and wash where the spots are but if you don’t know where it is use the black light and find them … Once you have done that use the carpet shampoo and shampoo the carpet … Do not let the water/vinegar dry up cuz it’d make the carpet hard … Do them when you have carpet shampoo with you …
For getting the stain out I’ve heard that Natures Miracle gets the stain and smell out really well. Get your dog checked by a vet first and see if he’s sick, if he is fine you’ll have to re-train him. He should either be in a crate or the same room as you at all times so you can keep and eye on him. This way there is no way he can pee without you catching him in the act. When he goes yell NO! and this should startle him. Take him outside and give him a command to go. I use “get busy” and repeat it over and over until he pees, them praise him. If you dog is really sneaky then put on a leash and tie him near you. Slowly you can let him have two rooms at a time and eventually what ever part of the house.
When you want your dog to go potty take him outside and repeat”get busy” or what ever you choose as he searches for a spot, when he is done praise and treat him.
he sounds like he is sick, take him to the vet. Most dogs do not just start going around the house. Unless you just had a change, like a baby, marriage, etc. and he is acting out.
Your dog is sick. It happened to my dog a year ago.
NEVER scold when he is SICK!!! Your dog cant help it cuz he is sick. You have to wait until he will get feel better and back to normal.

It could be a bunch of reasons. First of all you need to make sure you clean the areas he peed on very well to get rid of the smell. You can make sure that you got it all by using a black light (it will show up yellow).
It may be a medical issue which means you need to take him to the vet
It may be that he is bored or wants attention. Try walking him more and or spending more time playing with him. You would be suprised how time will clear up many bad habits and you see the results almost instantly. Good luck
