I think so but they have lots of issues with their health my grandparents have one and it is very prone to allergies and it gets sick very easily by things around her. they bark alot but are very friendly if you dont abuse them as puppies. They are also prone to skin problems. they are probably not a dog a 11 year old could raise easily they have to go to the vet alot so therefore $$$$ and they attach to their owner the love easily and cry when that person leaves. Though they are very cute and friendly they are probably more of a family dog. They are a wonderful breed of animal just if u get one be good to it when its young. Hope that helps :)
~Kooka1~ if u need to contact me further my email is puppylovetime10@yahoo.com GOOD LUCK!

Yes.
West Highland White Terriers (Westies) are good for people that have allergies. They are Hypoallergentic, which means they are good for allergy suffers.
I have a Westie myself and I love him dearly.
Westies are hardy but easy to train. They are good watchdogs too. They are very lively, willful, friendly, sweet, and loving. They are terriers, and they have a history of chasing small animals such as rodents. They may even chase cats, and if you want a Westie to get along with a cat, you need to raise the Westie with a cat from puppyhood. NEVER trust a Westie off the leash. Westies may dig or bark when they are bored so keep them entertained. They need 13 hours of sleep so they take lots of naps during the day.
When I go to school, it usually takes long naps then, when I come home, I would wake him up and we would play all day. I don't think that a 11 year old could raise a Westie, alone. If parents helped out then yes. The most common health problem of a Westie is skin problems and it's very easy to prevent. You should never wash a Westie to much, usually once a month is okay or only when a Westie REALLY needs one. They need daily brush and grooming and daily walks too.
