How To Housebreak A Westie?

my family and i have a four month old westie and she still pees and poops in our house. we are also trying to crate train her. Is there anyone that can give some advice on how to get a dog to pee and poop outside 100% of the time

Trying to crate train? You need to 100% train it. Not “try”. Whatever method you use, be consistant.

This worked for our puppy….but you MUST be CONSISTENT and PATIENT. You also MUST wait outside with your puppy until she poops and pees and then praise her by saying “good potty” so she will understand what she did and will eventually know what you mean when you say it.
Sorry the following advice says “he” and not “she”.
Set a timer to remind you to take your puppy out every 30 minutes. Take him to the spot you want him to potty and wait patiently until he does. Once he seems to be doing good with that, then set the timer for 45 minutes, and so on and so on. Work at getting it to 2 hours and up. Always take him to his potty spot. If he poops in the wrong place (house, or where ever) pick up the poop and put it where you want him to go and show him nicely so he will get the idea.
Also, take him out every time he wakes up, about 15-30 minutes after eating, and after hard play.
Never tell him NO when he potties in the wrong place because you will confuse him. He will think that the act of going potty is bad, not where he is going potty. And never stick his nose in it. You don’t want to scare him or make him angry with you.
Use positive reinforcement EVERY TIME. Tell him something like “good potty” when he gets it right.
Remember, he is a baby. Be patient and consistent. It takes a while to develop bladder control, but give him time and it will happen.
Good reading would be “Training Your Puppy” magazine type book by the editors of Dog Fancy magazine, and “House-Training” also by the editors of Dog Fancy.
    Good luck :)

some dogs you can not housebreak. when you crate her. make sure soon as you get up or get home run her out side. feed her a couple times a day wait about 20 min after she eats and take her out. usually puppies potty a couple times before they are done due to running and playing. if you area lite sleeper sleep with her at night so when she has to go you can run her out.

Get the book, How to Housebreak Your Dog in Seven Days, written by internationally famous dog expert Shirlee Kalstone. It has *all* of the instructions in it, not just some. When you have the book and you forget something, you can just look it up again. This book is easy to read and easy to understand and easy to do. I’ve used it myself and I recommend it to all of my friends and clients, too. It only costs $8.99 plus mailing costs. You can buy it from Dogwise Books. here’s the link for Dogwise Books: http://www.dogwise.com

If you want to train her to go outside then take her out every 4 hours so she gets used to it.
