How Do You Toilet Train An 8 Week Old Westie Puppy?

put paper down where they usually wee. watch them for when they go and put them onto the paper. when they get used to the paper start to move it towards the door and out into the garden. they should soon just go outside. it took our dog a couple of weeks to get fully trained.

Keep taking the puppy outside and waiting for it to go to the toilet, after it has been make a massive fuss of it and go back indoors.
If the puppy is to young to go outdoors, do the same with sheets of newspaper on the floor, when it looks like its going to go to the toilet put it on the newspaper. Make a big fuss of the puppy when it goes to the toilet.
Gradually move the sheets of paper nearer to the door until eventually they will go outside, and know to ask at the door to be let out.

There are several methods and you need to use the one that works for your dog. go to the pet store and get a book on this subject. It will give you various methods to try.
cover the kitchen floor in paper and put him on the paper after he has had a drink, or when he starts to show signs of wanting a wee (puppies usually start sniffing the floor and walking round and round in circles when they want to do a wee). Praise him when he goes on the paper.
Once he has realised that the paper is the correct place to go you can start taking away pieces of it so theres only a small amount of paper. Then gradually start moving it towards the back door. One day (preferably when its warm and sunny and puppy has had all his jabs!) you can open the back door and put the paper just outside where the puppy can see it. Hopefully (*hopefully*!) he should start to use the paper outside. Once he’s asking to go out for the toilet you can forget the paper and he should just go outside.
If you want him to go in a certain part of the garden, then put a little bit of whatever he’s “done” on that area – he will smell it and realise that this is the correct place for him to go to toilet.
The same way you do any other breed. When the pup wakes up you take him outside. When he relieves himself out there you praise him. After he eats you take him outside when he relieves himself out there you praise him. Unless you are able to watch him keep him in his crater because dogs do not like to soil their space…..doing so would be the same as your growing in your bed. When you take him out of his crate take him outside and when he relieves himself praise him. The amount of time it takes to train him will depend on how consistent you are.
Take the pup outside as soon as it has eaten,it will get used to this routine quite quickly and will eventually ask to go out ,when it is indoors try using a litter tray and again after each meal,if you cannot let it out ,put it next to or into the litter tray,so that it gets used to eating then doing its business,Dogs have a straight gut.so as a pup will not have yet learned control.it needs to be shown what to do,until it knows when it needs to go out side,or it will eat then very soon after be making a nasty mess,wherever it happens to be.Be patient and don`t scold it if it makes a mess occasionally,it is only a baby after all.Good luck with your puppy,i hope all goes well and it is a fast learner.xx
If your dog goes to the bathroom in your house, take it and put it’s nose into what he did, say NO! BAD DOG! AND HIT IT ON THE BUTT Or NOSE and put it in their crate for 30 min. Also make sure to watch if it’s standing by the door so you can take it out and not go in the house.
Crate training. We have an Australian Shepherd puppy right now and I was reluctant to use this method at first, even though I’ve had dogs in the past and know in my head it’s not cruel at all, my heart had a difficult time with it. But honestly, it’s the best thing we ever did. Just do a search for crate training and you’ll get plenty of returns. Our puppy loves her crate and even goes in it to lay down when she wants to nap or rest or just wants some solitude. We put a blankie in it, toys, and a blanket over the top of it. I think she looks at it as her own little “cave”.
Now after you get a crate, get some bells to hang on your door, bells that hang down long enough that she can reach with her nose or a paw. Then every time you go out with her, gently put her paw/nose on the bells to ring them and excitedly say “outside”. Be patient, but honestly, before you know it, she’ll figure out that if I want to go outside, all I have to do is ring those bells and the door opens! Our puppy is 13 wks old now and at 10 wks she was ringing the bells to go out.

try putting him outside every 30 minutes. at night, keep him in a puppy crate. in the morning, check if the towels inside the puppy crate are wet. if they are dry and there is no poo or pee, give him 2 treats. if he had an accident, give him 1, and let him out right after you check either way.especcially let him out if there ISNT any mess!!! if he did make a mess, praise him, but tell him it is bad to go in the house.
I think the hardest part of the training would be to get him to put the toilet set down.
