A dog that pees on your leg is demonstrating dominance. He is dictating who you stop and talk to. I’m guessing that when you get your leg soaked you apologise to the person you’re talking to and carry on with the walk? It’s a training thing. Demonstrate calm but dominant behaviour towards your dog, letting him know who is boss. There is no way a dog will pee on the leg of his boss.

Most likely he is trying to “mark” you. Try doing a Sit command with him and possibly putting him a Sit-stay position. You can try to correct him with his collar and a word associated to just that behavior i.e. No Bad potty or carry a small water bottle/nozzle turned to “stream” and squirt him with the word “No” then praise after he stops.

    AAh he loves you

When you meet someone or just stop tell him to sit and praise him. Every time he gets up from the sit tell him again.
Yes it may mean that you go cross eyed for a while but at least whilst he is sitting he cannot mark you.

  5. giggles says:

maybe you are goving him too much water to drink,
    or he could be jealous,

  6. jukette says:

Neutering is your best answer for this, if not, then you need to be prepared for his possesive behaviour (marking you as his) and make sure he understands sit. If he stays on he’s behind he can’t pee..

You could always give him to me!! I don’t mind as I am lookibg for a westie right now. Best way is to praise him when he does it properly, against a tree or fence, and to say a firn ‘no’ and tug the lead when he does it wrong. He will then assocaite the ‘good’ behaviour with the reward of praise. Good Luck

The hairdresser’s Westie was lifting his leg on everything too – she had him neutered and he doesn ‘t do it anymore. I haven’t had that problem with my male, he’s neutered.

  9. Martin O says:

When it pees on you again give him a light thud on the mouth and say NO firmly maybe he will soon understand and stop peeing on you
