When a dog jumps up, do not be aggressive and knee, simply hold him up by his front paws and in a loving voice tell him you love him. He has jumped up so you react by holding him up. Do not let him down, keep him up as long as you can. By keeping him up, I mean stretching him up, and up and keep talking. He will then start to mouth your hands, then and only then drop him down. Do not place him, drop him.
When he is on all four legs which God gave him, love him to bits, cuddle and talk. Then encourage him to jump again, he might well try, as soon as he does grab the paws and repeat the whole exercise.
It is important to get the timing right, it is important that the whole family learn. Your dog will learn in a few minutes that to jump will make you react and he will not find this rewarding.

You need to start ignoring the behaviour. Yes it sounds weird, but with perseverance it can work.
By ignoring it, i mean, when the dog jumps up, walk away and turn your back on the dog, if they come back round and jump again, do the same, turn your back on them and walk away.
Keep doing this and dont incourage the behaviour by joking and talking to him when he does it. If you talk to him, he is getting the attention that he wants.
Reward the good behaviour, so that he knows and sees that you wont talk to him unless he sits nicely.
Ignore the bad behaviour, the jumping up at you.
    Hope that helps

Design a dog sweater or dog shirt with zippered or velcro compartments you can put small weights into. If not those tiny 1 lb “fitness weights” maybe fishing tackle weights or rolls of pennies or whatever small heavy objects will work. Add enough weight to keep the dog from jumping but not prohibit other movement. After wearing the shirt a few days I suspect the dog will give up on trying to jump.

when she jumps up she is showing that she is the boss. you need to walk her. get a leash around her like the kind that act as a collar and a leash and walk her! you need to make she she doesn’t walk in front of you. if she does pull up and say “hey” or “no” i she pulls, you need to stop and walk the opposite direction and then turn around to the regular direction if she does it again do the same thing. she will get that she won’t go anywhere if she keeps pulling. now when she jumps up on you you say “wrong” or “no” and put her down and than stand back up straight so you look like the pack leader. search for Cesar millon and victoria stillwell and see what they do. it will help once you become the pack leader, because right now she is the leader not you. next time you get a dog you need to make them tired by walking them BEFORE YOU take them into your house. but you always enter first and leave first as pack leader.

You can put your hands out so when your dog jumps it jumps into your palms. This won’t hurt your dog.
Another thing that works is turning your back on your dog.Eventually after some repetition it will understand not to jump up.
Some people say to squeeze the paws.I don’t like to hurt a animal,so I just tell my dog in a firm calm voice NO!.It does work.

When she goes to jump up-pull your knee up so she can’t and it blocks her, put your hand out as in the stop fashion-say stay or down. You have to keep doing this to make it work. OR- when she jumps up-turn your back to her until she stops (ignoring her)-then when she stops-talk to her then as she sits. Again this one takes time—I have done them both. they both work with patience!

There is a special harness you can get called The No Jump Harness. It is just like a regular harness except it has a special strap that goes behind the dogs back legs just behind the knee. Every time the dog tries to jump up the strap tucks their legs in so they are forced (gently) to sit down. It is humane and cheap (about $20). It helps you reinforce training. This will nip the problem in the bud while you practice on the sit and down commands. Good Luck :-)

OH Yeah you can get the harness at Petsmart, Petco, or online- found one for 10.99 :-)

You’ll have to teach her the down command and you have to remain calm. Acting excited or something will only encourage the behavior. You have to be consitent.

Given the dog is a 5 yr old it will take some time and do not listen to the idiots that tell you knee kick her.Every time she attempts ti junp on you move swiftly back and say firmly NO.On the other hand you could actually train her to the point when she comes to you she has to sit in front of you until you say come and then if she jumps move back again and use the word NO.The only other suggestion l have is if you have time enrol in an Obedience Club and they will help you with this problem. You are lucky she is small imagine if she was a great dane
