How Do I Stop My Adult Dog From Urinating On The Couch?

How do I stop my dog (5 yr old Westie) from urinating on the couch? She is house trained and does not have a bladder infection (just had her check out at the vet with a urine sample). I believe its behavioral problem but do not know why she has urinated twice (once on my couch and once on the chase). She does not urinate inside. Thanks.

Something has frightened or seriously stressed her, so she is peeing where her scent is covered by her protector’s. It may be a dog barking, or someone came to the door when you were away, or even bad dreams..But peeing where the master’s or human scent is strongest is a sign of stress (fear) or insecurity.
You can increase her sense of security or well-being by teaching her new things..such as simple commands she will learn well and quickly..such as shake hands, or kiss, or even the basic obedience commands, (sit, stay, come, heel, down) always being up-beat, and giving praise for every effort..Walk with her more, so she becomes very familiar with every area outdoors, and can see that the boogieman isn’t just waiting to snatch a helpless little girl..
Scolding her for it will only increase her sense of security, and will backfire in helping her overcome this behavior.
problem with dogs is that they like to urinate in the same place over and over. Your dog smells his scent there is going to continue to urinate there as long as the smell is there. If you can’t discipline him in to stopping and you can’t get the smell out by washing it, then you may just have to get a new couch.

you have to get rid of the couch. A dog will always return to urinate on a spot that they have previously urinated on. the dog may have done this to mark territory or to show itsdispleasure with something. The dog may have been mad at you.I would .If you have to keep the couch, spray vinegar on it to get rid of the amonia smell that the dog is picking up. THis may or may not work but has worked for some. You will then to spray fabreeze to get rid of the vinegar smell. There are industrial cleaners that can help neutralize the amonia oder that the dog goes back to.I personally, would not want to sit on a couch with doggie urine in it so if at all possible, get rid of the couch and you will likely get rid of your problem.
Now that he’s done it, his smell is in there and it will be very difficult to get him to stop. Go to the pet store and get one of those pet smell neutralizing spot removers and clean where he went with that. It might help. Also, get him outside a little more often. If possible, restrict his access to that room unless he’s supervised for awhile. Good luck!
First, get a new couch. The one you have now has urine smells on it and the dog smells it and thinks it’s okay to pee on it. Secondly, when you get your new couch, don’t let your dog up on it.
