Housebreaking can begin by the time the puppy is two to three months old, although they usually do not have enough control of their bladder to be completely housebroken until they are six months to a year old. Many find that using training pads is an effective method of housebreaking. Others prefer to use a crate training method.

Well, you can choose outdoor or indoor method
    Outdoor method :
After your puppy has eaten and/or drunk, take it immediately to the place where you want your puppy to do its business. Make sure it stays away from human traffic. Stay with the puppy until it finish its business, continue this daily until the puppy chooses the right spot as a habit. If possible, make the meal time the same everyday. this process make take to 14 days.
    Indoor method.
    the simple newspaper method.
    1) put the newspaper where you want the puppy to do its business.
2)carry the puppy to the newspaper each time you have fed it or it has had a drink, and encourage it to do its business.
3)Do this for every meal until the puppy gets the message and heads for the newspaper on its own accord.
4)if you need to change the location, move it alittle bit at a time, the puppy will follow the toilet each day.

Nope, it doesn’t take a long time at all… if you are consistent about it… Read B.F. Skinner’s Behavioural Modification theory. Training a dog requires the owner to be consistent. If you catch your puppy going around in circles, put it where you want it to do it’s business. It could be outside, the toilet, the kitchen. Decide on that one place that it has the right to access to anytime. And that it is easy for you to clean. If it is in the kitchen, simply layer the one spot, not everywhere or anywhere, put the puppy there, encourage it, and when done, reward the puppy with a praise or a treat. And repeat this process until the puppy automatically goes there. Most pet owners make the mistake of teaching the puppy half way and then punish the puppy for doing it’s business at the wrong places. Dogs cannot understand that because dogs, expecially males mark their territory with their scent and urine. So you have to be very patient with your dog. If your dog ever make such a mistake, you have to punish it when you caught it red-handed and remove the dog scent- usually stores provide cleaning fluids but make sure it doesn’t contain ammonia as it resemble urine. Consistency and patience is the key. Good luck.

Crate training is my personal favorite option. And a crate can be bought at any pet store, and some wal marts sell them as well. You’ll want the crate to be big enough for your puppy to stand up and turn around, but not too large, or it won’t serve it’s purpose. http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.…

We got our lab when she was 6 weeks old. Every two hours we would take her outside to go to the bathroom (last time at night was around 9 or 10 and then it started back up at 6 a.m.), and when she went we would praise her. We would also take her out ten min. after eating or drinking. She was confined to one room and when she was not being watched she was placed in a cage. She was completely trained in 2 weeks and only had an accident once or twice.
