She is a westie, and is already pointing, but she points when she is playing. How can i teach her to hunt? I want her to hunt, squirrel, and birds and little stuff like that. Can you help? My overall question is,
How can i train my westie to track, and hunt?
How can i turn her into a hunting dog??

Get a squirrel pelt tie up your pup and tease her with it. Don’t let her have it just tease her. Tie a short rope to it and drag it away from her and out of sight hide it in a tree. Go back and let her go encourage her. Say things like “get the squirrel, get the squirrel”! When she finds it spend a few minutes praising her at the tree fire one shot in the air and let her chew it for a minute. Then take it away and do it again. Start off with simple easy to find drags and slowly get more complex. Do not keep hiding it in the same tree. Sent can be added to your pelt if needed. Usually a good bloody pelt wont need sent though. After the hunt I freeze the pelt to use again. When actually hunting do not confuse dog by starring into a specific tree unless there is a squirrell in it. This will confuse your pup. Let her work it out. The only other thing I can think of is hunting her with an experienced dog. Training a good working dog is such a wonderfull expierence very rewarding and frustraiting at times. Good hunting
