Does Anyone Have Any Ideas On How To Stop A 7-year-old Westie From Yapping When He Is Excited, Hungry, Happy,?

He was adopted 2 years ago, so it’s hard to know what training he had as a puppy.

Very easy-fill a spray bottle (like for cleaners) or a water pistol with cold water, and every time he even growls, give him a squirt in the face. As soon as he stops the noise when you douse him, praise him for being so quiet. After a while, he’ll associate the barking with the water, and not barking with the praise. Then you can just leave the water out of it, and keep the pistol or spray bottle in view as a reminder.
We did this with out silky terrier when we first got him, b/c we live in an apartment. He was in the pet store until he was 7 months old, (we got him on clearance!!!) and had learned some very bad habits. This worked in about a week.

It’s what they do to show excitment and at 7 years old, you’re not going to change him. Smaller dogs are generally more yappy.
