Does A Siberian Husky And West Highland White Terrier Get Along Together?

First, I wanted to have a small dog and then I thought I also need bigger dog to scare of unwanted strangers. So I came up with the Husky cause they look great, scary on the outside but they are still friendly and adorable in the inside. Anyway, I don’t want those really scary and aggressive dogs such as pitbulls, rottweilers etc. Then for a smaller dog, I wanted a westie terrier.
I just want to know if these two breeds get along with each other. And how does aSiberian Husky do in summer, I live in NYC btw but it gets really hot here during summertime. Let me know what your opinions are or if you wanted to suggest other breeds that get along well that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The Husky is a pack dog that loves other dogs. westies are also friendly dogs. Huskies do ok in summer but shed alot, try to keep him inside and well groomed and take them both on walks early morning or after it cools down in the evening. Both breeds need to feel like part of the family and need lots of love. Huskies may look scary but they will not protect you belongings but will protect his family.

the only way to find out is to introduce them to each other!nice dogs can turn ugly fast!!

they will get along as long as you get them both as puppies and have them both fixed esp. if they are both boys. however, terriers and huskies are both stubborn and sometimes dominant breeds so if they were adults there would be less of a chance of it working out although they would probably still be fine. Huskies are dificult dogs to train they can be very stubborn and willfull and you will def need to have a high fence. just make sure you know what your getting into when you get a husky. maybe try a german shepherd or a bernese mountain dog instead. Dont get me wrong i love huskies, i have a husky mix but they could be difficult for a new dog owner. i dont know if you are or not but im sure you’ll make the best choice. good luck!!

I am a firm believer that dogs totally key into our energy. If we want the dogs to get along and are relaxed about their interaction, chances are that they will. It it is all about how you present the dogs to each other and what “message” your emotions give the situation. I have a 3 mo Westie who from day one (8 weeks) has been best friends with my 59# pit bill. They roll around on the ground, play, lick each other, etc. etc. The pit has NEVER growled or been rough, whereas my 6 yo Westie growls all the time to tell puppy to back off.
So, YES, introduce your puppy to other dogs as long as safety and emotional comfort of the two dogs is primary in your mind.

I’m sure they would, but I’d like to say that not all rottweilers or pittbulls are aggressive and scary. I’ve had 3 rotties and they are just adorable lumps of fun. They wouldn’t hurt anyone unless they believe their family is in danger.

First off, any dog can be great with other dogs, as long as they are socialized when they are younger, and they are trained. I am a firm believer in Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer.
I have a Husky and in the summertime, their coat does insulate them from the heat just as it does from the cold in the winter. And as with any dog, you just have to keep an eye on them in the summer. You can’t leave them outside for long periods or over work them. Huskies will keep going until you stop them. They will overheat if you don’t keep an watch on them. But their personalities make you want to watch them.
Otherwise, the dogs will get along great. One thing I will warn you about, Huskies shed twice a year, and it’s pretty intense. Hope you have a good vacuum. Haha.

It really all depends on the dogs. They both have a friendly nature, so I don’t see why not. Sounds like a cute combonation to me!

Like said before, breeds don’t determine whether or not they get along, it’s the dog’s personality. I would have to say, the best way to find out if they get along is to introduce them to each other.
Huskies can do okay in the heat, and with the thick coat they have a potential to get overheated. Be sure to keep water offered on a regular basis (especially while out on walks). If you’re not quite sure what dog(s) will fit you best (living conditions, time away from home, etc.) check out eukanuba.com. They have a survey like page that will help pick a dog that’s best for you, but dogs do have their own special behaviors and personalities.

It will depend on the individual dogs, not the breeds. The husky may be a big marshmallow and the westie will rule the roost… you won’t know till you get them together. Siberians typically need a lot of space and something to occupy them, they’re smart dogs.

Lots of variables here. I have a Husky, Chihuahua and a Dachshund. The husky is a female. She gets jealous when she doesn’t get attention. She basically tolerates the 2 little ones, but doesn’t really care for other dogs. She tends to weed out the weak dogs and pick on them. We live in Texas, and I shave my Husky usually only once a year. A lot of people say that it is bad to shave a husky, but we’ve been doing it for 7 years and have had no problems. She tolerates the heat like any other dog would. Good Luck.
