Crate Training And Litter Box Question.?

I have a Westie who is being crate trained. I live in a high-rise so I would like to also get him used to using a litter box. Is it alright to have the litter box inside the crate? The rest of the crate would be covered by his bed area.

If you do it you’ll be sorry. The crate should be a safe place to sleep and play. If it becomes the potty area you will have a really hard time undoing that training. Most people who litter train or use pads have a hard time retraining to pee and poo outdoors, so you may want to re-think this. It is a pain, but you’re better off taking your pup outdoors often enough that he can do his business outside. Your life will be much easier when he is an adult.

I wouldnt put anything in there maybe newspaper…but I just got done crate training my dog he is wonderful now, we are not home all day either and if he had an accident he had to get a bath later but using a crate is a very good idea.

I don’t know but I don’t think that would be a very good idea because that is were he sleeps and relaxes so I suggest not to do that

I wouldnt do it but then again i dont believe in crates and I have never used a litter box for my dogs either. Why dont you just take him out on a leash

that would have to be a large crate. animals don’t usually like to lay where they pee/poo. instead, you could put the litter box in a bathroom and contain the dog in the bathroom at night until you get him trained so that he can be alone at night. the bathroom floor is linoleum or tile, so if he does make mistakes it will be easy to clean. plus, you can put a bowl of water down for him and the litter box, but it’s still relatively small and contained area. if you have multiple bathrooms, put him in one that is used the least.
