Can West Highland White Terriers Be Different As Far As Hair?

Ive seen westies with alot of hair like a full body of hair.
But my pup only has a little bit.
It covers his body but i noticed its not as full as others.
Do westies have different hair types?

Young terriers tend to have ‘softer’ baby fur and as he grows, the stiffer guard hairs take over. You didn’t mention how young your puppy is, but it is never too young to start taking him to a groomer so he can get used to being clipped like a westie. Now would also be a good time for you to also get him used to being brushed, since terrier fur tends to get those lovely dreadlock mats, especially between their legs.

    sigh……….there’s ONE correct coat.
The photos you see are of QUALITY & PROFESSIONALLY GROOMED specimens. HAND-STRIPPED=***NEVER**** CLIPPERED!!!!
Substandard dogs will NOT have coats or any other correct breed traits.
A PUP will not have a full adult coat.
&…If it IS adult & there’s no thyroid problem, you have a pet-quality dog=period .It will never have a correct coat.

Not if it’s a pure-bred. If it’s a mixed breed, it can inherit less hair from either parent. Either that or your puppy just hasn’t grown up enough to where you really notice.
