Can Anyone Give Me Tips On How To Train My Dog?

I have a 1 yr old westie/shitzu mix and I am trying to train her. I keep putting it off and now i think it might be to late. She knows how to sit but i want her to Stay, fetch, lay down and of course listen when i say NO! Right now all she does is when i say NO is try to butter me up like licking my face and acting innocent. I need help!

Actually the very best way to do it is sign up for training in obedience… the basics.. from there you can explore more fun stuff like agility or rallye etc.
a good trainer will help you train your dog and it is waaaaaaaay less expensive than having an untrained dog do damages.
Also a great book is my smart puppy. now your dog technically isn’t a puppy but a lot of te stuff is really appropriate. You can also find videos on you tue or iams websites for training… ormaybe its purina i forget.
check out my web blog about puppy life and also my store which may have some books for your training endevours. good luck

its never to late putting off was a bad idea but that happens some times when you say no make sure you look her in the eyes and mean it and say it in a voice where it says i mean it .make sure when she dose the tricks right she gets a treat so she knows that was good .to get her to lay down hold the treat close to the ground or under her chin .a helpful show to watch is “its me or the dog” on animal planet.make sure to work with you dog some times it all they need to practice to get it if you do it right she can learn a trick in one day good luck

ok like to have it sit..it will take awhile but u just got to say sit…if the dog dosent show it by pushing its butt down or u sit down and everytime the dog does it u praise it and give it a little treat. they get used to it if they know that there being a good doggy. opps..its knows how to sit but u just use the same method for everything

It is NOT too late, do not worry. We’ve trained dogs as old as nine who have performed beautifully. Terriers are notorious for being stubborn, willful, and dominant, and it sounds like you have a handful. I suggest a good training class to help you establish a good alpha relationship, it sounds like that is your biggest problem.

WELL IT DOESN’T MATTER LUCKY FOR YOU SHE MUST BE CLEVER YOU COULD EITHER GO TO A DOG TRAINING CLUB AND HOPEFULLY SHE WOULD PICK THINGS UP FROM THE OTHER DOGS .OR YOU COULD TAKE HER INTO A ROOM WITH NO DISTRACTIONS AND HAVE TREATS ,AND DONT BE SOFT WITH HER ,JUST THINK TO YOUR SELF ITS THE BEST THING FOR HER.BE STRONG I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT JUST BE VERY PATIENT AND ALLWAYS REWARD WHEN SHE DOES SOMETHING GOOD.
