Bull Terrier Or West Highland White Terrier?!?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
What a dilemma. I have narrowed my top choices down to these two and done a LOT of research on them both. I have had experience with dogs my whole life… in fact, the past couple of months since I’ve moved is the first time I have not had one.
If anyone has ever had either of these two breeds I’d appreciate hearing some of your input! I love them both but definitely can’t afford two puppies. I know they both have positives and negatives. I live in a large flat and my complex has two huge dog run areas and am home most of the day. I don’t have any kids or other pets/people living with me.

I would say the Bull Terrier. They are very loving and loyal, and since you’re home most of the day, the breed would really suit you. Hope this helps you!
well, here is two main differences i can list:
very high energy = bull terrier
medium high energy = westie
low grooming requirements = bull terrier
medium high grooming requirements = westie
both are lovable, both like to have fun, both need things to keep them busy.
I’d definitely go for the Bullie. I assume you’re talking about the Mini Bull Terrier, which would survive in a flat but still require a good amount of exercise. As long as you can provide that, I think they are adorable dogs – not the breed for everyone, but as long as you can provide the space, attention and firm handling that they need, they would make a great pet.
I am actually contemplating a Mini Bull Terrier as a pet in a few years’ time and I did some preliminary research on a forum I go to. You can read the thread I posted here.http://www.dogforums.com/2-general-dog-f…
I’d get a Westie – I have two. But, since I know absolutely nothing about Bull Terriers it’s hard for me to compare. Since they are Terriers both will be high energy and need lots of exercise, mine do. Terriers are also stubborn and need obedience training. Good luck choosing a pup.
I have a Westie and love him dearly. He adapts to every situation he is placed in with no problems. He is just as comfortable surrounded by roaring motorcycles as he is lying on the back of the sofa looking out the window.
He can be high energy at times, but is very content to sit on my lap and be brushed while I watch TV.
I think a lot of it is how they are trained. My westie rings a bell to go outside, know all sorts of tricks, we can also take his food or a bone away from him with no growling or problems of any kind.
Hope this helps.
