A Little Help With My Westie Dog???

Feed on a regular schedule. 20-30 minutes after feeding take him outside. Repeat this about ever 10 minutes until he goes. Also, the first thing you do when you open the crate door, go outside. Most often, I carry them to the door not giving them the opportunity to go on the floor until they start to get the hang of it.
Take him out immediately after a nap, or play time also. Take him out on a lead, always out the same door, always to the same spot in the yard. Stay out there with him…..pick a phrase and use it consistantly..we use “go potty” as we are heading out the door we are saying “gotta go potty?” once outside we repeat over and over…go potty, go potty…..immediately when puppy squats and begins to potty begin praising in a very excited tone “good boy go potty” lots and lots of praise. We must look like idiots to our neighbors sometimes….getting soo excited cuz the puppy went potty. But, it works! A dogs greatest desire in life is to please his master…so if he truely knows that is what you want him to do…he’ll do his best…..
It is also very necessary to clean the area well with some sort of (I use white vinager/water) to kill the scent so puppy is not tempted to go there again.
If he poops in the house..(as gross as it sounds) take the poop outside, and take puppy out too, so he can smell the poop in the yard telling him go potty…..
You are correct to not yell at him or hit him….if you catch him in the act as quick hand clap and a sharp firm “NO” to distract him, and take him immediately outside to finish his business……remember…PRAISE!!!. I
f you find a mess you didn’t catch him in the act…simply clean it up, and move forward. Once puppy had made this mistake and moved on….you can’t punish him for it.
Contrary to most others…..I don’t keep water in my puppies crate. the greatest amount of time she is left alone is 3.5 hours then I’m home for lunch…she gets to go outside at lunch…eat, and drink water…outside again immediately prior to my going back to work…and then back to her crate…then my husband gets home a couple hours later..and again,…..immediately outside……
Routine/consistancy/and lots and lots of patience are the key ingredients to potty training your puppy!
you have a beautiful dog, sadly it is hard to train a dog, my trick is mid wee get the dog and put him in the garden and say wee wee! I know this sounds crazy but this is how i trained my dog, Praise dog when it toilets in the garden make sure you say wee wee. They should associate wee wee with the garden dont forget to praise. You may feel silly but I do this with my dogs when i am sat down inside i say wee wee? and they will go towards the garden. Be Persistant and good luck

hmm well my puppy was trained at 3 months. We just took him out every hour and he got the hang of it. I would say just try that? I am little confused about the question.
train the dog to go to the toilet on a piece of news paper then move the news paper nearer and nearer the door until it is outside
